Hello I am new to this Forum. I have an 83 F100 with 300 straight 6 and AOD transmission. Would anyone know what would be a good replacement transmission?

Well, you need to ID what you want to do with this truck. The AOD is a good tranny for cruising as it has an overdrive and a lock-up torque converter. But, it isn't all that robust. However, the other auto is a C6 and it is everything the AOD isn't. It is robust and hard to kill. But, with no overdrive it isn't fuel-friendly. However, if you can row a manual you have several options.
So, tell us what you want to do with the truck, what rear gears you have, what tire size you are running, etc. Then we can help more on the tranny.
Nothing to forgive. You know more than most newbies on here.
Wow, 3.08's and an AOD with its .67:1 OD gives you a 2.06:1 final drive ratio. Couple that with larger than stock tires and you have a REALLY tall geared truck. And, there's probably no other engine that would work with that combo other than the 300 six. That is good for cruising, but not much else. Even in Drive you are still higher geared than my truck with 3.50's.

So, what do you want to do with the truck?
Thank you.
Well for the time being I just want to swap out the transmission. My old one has been slipping and it started to smoke when I towed a small trailer. I am willing to swap to a manual if it is not going to be too complicated.
The AOD in stock form isn't strong, and with your tall gears isn't suited for pulling a trailer. But, it can be built quite strong by someone that knows what he's doing. In any event, you have to decide what you want to do with the truck. (Third time I've said that, btw.) That will determine what tranny to go with.
Swapping to a C6 isn't complicated at all, and going with a manual isn't too complicated. The 300 has the same bell housing pattern as the 302 & 351W, so any tranny that came from behind a Windsor bolts to a 300.

Well I plan of using it as my work truck. I won't be doing too much heavy towing, but would like to be to tow a trailer for work. Also Upgrade suspension, steering and brakes for a smoother ride. Other than that I do not plan on doing anything too out of the ordinary. I really appreciate your help and opinions. Thank you.
If you aren't worried about MPG and just want it back on the road able to tow then go for a C6. You can get one with a guarantee that it'll work from a salvage for maybe $250. And if you put an external tranny cooler on it the tranny will be up to towing anything. However, the engine doesn't have a lot of power so you won't get there very fast. But one of our regulars has a truck with 3.00 gears behind a 300 with a C6 and he towed a trailer with his '70's F150 on it, no problems.
Having said that, if you are going to do a lot of upgrading (suspension, steering, brakes, etc) then you really should go buy the truck you want and sell this one. Trust me, it will be less expensive. My rule-of-thumb is that you can buy for half what you can build.

Excellent, I now have enough info to go about choosing a tranny. Thank you fellas for your help. God bless
