Does anyone have the spec's for the fluids for the 99.5 Powerstroke. I want to change and or flush my powersteering fluid and transmission. I heard that Ford had changed/approved certain fluids that were not recomended in my seven year old owners book.
Another question, I read about the procedure of flushing the transmission using the clear tube and dump and run until fluids have been changed. This sounds like the way to go, but, I've also read on this forum that this method can/may/might/who knows, damage the clutches or elements in the trans. Can anyone enlighten me in this issue. I would appreciate any insight, thanks Joe
Heres the trans flush http://www.7point3.com/Writeups/TransFlush.aspx
As long as you shut it down when you first see air and fill the trans back up the internals will never be without fluid and damage will not happen.
Ford originally approved Mercon for our trucks but as of last summer Mercon is not being produced. Ford approved the new formulation of Mercon V for use in our trucks, the original Mercon V could cause friction plate separation due to the bonding agent used breaking down.
I have been using Royal Purple MAX ATF and had no issues and smother shifts.
Thank you gentleman, that was quick, I appreciate it, I was sitting her thinking about doing something to my truck today and you just convinced me. I will do both as suggested and also change my oil from Rotella-T to Rotella Syn today. We just finished the oil pan change on F-250 Heavy Duty, 460CI and the garage is mine again...LOL
I use Royal Purple in my wife's Escape for the past two years, I have read that it's well above the other Syn's. So far so good.
JD, do you happen to have a suction gun, or vacuum pump, or an oil extractor? If you do, remove the plug on the top of the high pressure oil reservoir, and suck out as much oil as possible. Then refill within a half inch of the top. Yes, it will be more than 15 quarts, because when you normally change the oil, that oil is not touched, it stays in the engine. The 15qts is the sump capacity, and what is in the filter. When i did this i added an extra two quarts to the HPOP resi, which means that i have two quarts less of dirty oil still in the engine to mix in. Like always, i unplug the CPS connector, and crank the engine until it shows oil pressure.
Great advise. Answer to everything is "No", but what ever I need I'll get today. I could use the turkey baster but then I would have to live in the garage. I have never explored the HPOP but will today. I bought 4-gallons of Syn. I'l need more then.
I have read much about this Syn, and thought I would convert. Hope it make a differance. Thanks again.
