I know this topic has been discussed before, but I have another question besides which one is best. Does anyone know which brand will mate up to the factory Y pipe? I had a seat of BBK shorties (that were supposed to be a direct replaement for the factory manifold) and they mounted to the engine just fine and they lined up with the factory Y pipe, but they would not seal up on the Y pipe. I am guessing this is because they required a 2.5 Y pipe and the factory Y pipe is 2.25. I was going to get a set of Ford Racing shorties, but never got around to it. Before I get any, I want to make sure that they will actually mate up to the factory Y pipe. Jason, with the 96 Lightning Clone, has Hedman shorties, but he replaced the the Y pipe. I don't want to replace the Y pipe. If I have to, then I will wait a while longer. If any one has some that worked out well, please let me know which ones you got for your truck. Also, if you have a part number that would be great too. I guess my real question is, do all of the shorty headers require a 2.5 Y pipe?
I have never had a prob them them ball and socket connections. If they leak I usually just tighten them while the truck is running so I know when there not leaking.
I was gonna replace my broken manifolds (again) with shorties but then I found I could get both sides shipped to my house for about $75 via eBay so I went back with manifolds. Geez I used to pay about $250 a side back when you could only get them from the dealer.
