DOING A REBUILD WITH MY SON ON A 92 F150 4X4 5,0L, INSTALLED SHORTY HEADERS WHEN WE HAD THE MOTOR OUT. CANT SEEM TO GET THE Y- PIPE TO SEAL. WE TRIED THE ORIGINAL Y-PIPE AND BOUGHT A REPLACEMENT. ANYBODY GOT ANY TRICKS TO MAKE THIS WORK.
Perhaps the Summit headers were not correctly manufactured?
My other suggestion is when installing the y-pipe do not try to torque down one side, then the other. Meaning slowly tighten both sides so any mis-alignment will work itself out. Snug the nuts down on one side by hand, then go to the other. Repeat until you have reached the torque specification.
I did that, but looking more closely at the headers they appear to be slightly slotted where they bolt to the head. I may have to loosen the headers and let them self align to the y-pipe.
