Is there a thread for an Altenator Instalation on a 7.3 ltr diesel . I've looked but can't find anything ..... it does'nt look like a tuff instal but any suggestions would be great ....
Have you ever removed a serpentine belt? If not you need to locate the tensioner pulley and rotate it with a breaker bar or socket wrench to remove the belt. Then it's just unbolt / bolt as described above.
I just had to put one on my X in the parking lot at napa this afternoon. On our way to Billings (50 miles) about 1/2 way and the radio quit, about 10 miles further all the gauges quit. I knew what the problem was then. Had it happen 2 times with my pickup except it was night and my lights were dim so I knew I had an issue prior to the dash dying. Anyway, got to town and the climate control quit as I was pulling into napa. 30 minutes later I was on my way. The guys a napa were awesome, loaned me a few wrenches and let me use a booster box.
I've gotta find a nice amp gauge and figure out a nice place to install it!!!

I'm putting a Voltage gauge in mine. I'm getting intermittant battery light now, so I need to watch it. This is after a brand new (not rebuilt) AutoZoo DuraLast Gold alternator was put in back in June. The voltage gauge will let you know when the alt is crapping out as you should have about 12.5V-13V with the engine off and around 14ish with it running.

Joe, I am getting the same issue, ive got a NEW alternator, new battery cables, new batteries, new connector to the alternator, new tensioner, and from time to time I am getting a flashing battery light. The only thing I havent changed (but will soon) is the serp belt, maybe it is slipping. I dont know.
