Hey everyone, I'm planning on putting a new exhaust on my Bronco 300 from the engine back including EFI manifolds (on my carbed engine), a cat, and a muffler.
I don't have a welder but I've done lots of welding work before making fences, bridges, tools, etc... but never on aluminum or anything as thin as exhaust. A local shop quoted me $550 to do the entire exhaust with a high flow cat and high flow muffler, or $350 if I brought my own cat and muffler in. (This is with 2.5" exhaust.)
So, honestly, is this a great deal that I should just say "screw it" and go with it? Or is doing my own exhaust pretty easy and I'll save money even if I had to buy all the pipe and a welder?
The deal doesnt sound bad. But doing your own is not hard. I did mine with all 3" stainless with a TIG welder. It turned out very nice. Once you have the welder (whether its a TIG or a MIG) you will find other things to do with it.
I would buy the welder even a el cheapo $150.00 arc welder for exhaust will work and you will come out cheaper especially in the long run using it on future projects. Try to fab up and weld it all then bolt it up even using clamps to position the pipes and then pull it out, weld it, remove clamps, then bolt it up. Summit has a exhaust kit with pre mandrel bent pipes all you do is weld them up to fit your vehicle.
