silence keyfob

Was hoping some1 could tell me how to silence my keyfob for my 2006 Ranger Sport 3.0L/V6 when I use the keyfob to lock the doors the horn blows.

Thank you!
Doug.

I think if you just press the lock button once you will lock it and lights will flash, press it twice and the horn sounds as well.

keyfob silencing

I realize that if you only press it once it will lock the doors, but I was told that one could set it .... not to blow the horn ... at all.

Thanks for your reply.

Hello Doug,
This info below is from my 1995 manual. The 2001 manual shows the alarm system to be significantly different from the 1995 and I suspect that the 2006 may be more like the 2001. I am not able to find a procedure for changing the horn response in the 2001. Will keep looking. Posting the 1995 in case any body else is interested.

There are "Worlwide Alarm Configurations" which determine the response of your exterior lamps, horn, theft LED, and alarm triggers. The North American protocol flashes the lights, sounds the horn, and flashes the theft LED for 2 min 45 sec. and has 3 alarm triggers. The Japanese protocol does not sound the horn or flash the exterior lamps. It does flash the theft LED for 2 min 45 sec and has 3 alarm triggers. In addition, the Japanese option has no horn chirping when you press the LOCK on the fob & there is no panic function at all.
To change your programming:
1. Make sure your anti-theft system is not armed or triggered, that the ignition is off and all doors closed.
2. Turn ignition key from OFF to RUN.
3. Press the door power unlock button 3 times.
4. Turn ignition key from RUN to OFF.
5. Press the door power unlock button 3 times
**Turn ignition key back to RUN within 30 seconds of step 2.

If the receiver assembly has successfully entered the enable/disable mode, it will lock and then unlock all doors. While in the enable/disable mode, the receiver assembly will not have any other functionality except for enabling/disabling features.
The following sequence will toggle the feature to either the enabled or disabled state opposite of its current state:
Press the door power unlock button the number of times associated with the feature you wish to enable or disable.
Autolock/relock-1 press
North America protocol--5 presses
Japan alarm--9 presses

The system will confirm the altered feature by chirping the horn the same number of times as the number of unlock presses registered. An additional long honk will occur after the horn chirps if the feature has been enabled. No horn honk will follow the horn chirps if the feature has been disabled.
After a horn chirp sequence has occured in the enable/disable mode another enable/disable sequence may be performed.
To exit the enable/disable mode, turn the ignition to OFF (or allow 5 minutes to pass after entering the enable mode). Upon exiting, the system will confirm the exit with a honk chirp if a feature has been changed.
The receiver assembly will keep its enable/disabled settings anytime battery voltage is disconnected and reconnected to the control module.

Hope this helps,
Ed

I almost didn't post it because of the model year but decided to do it in case it would help someone else and was hoping it might work for you and I am glad it did. I scoured the 2001 manual and found how to program remote transmitters but I can find nothing about the protocols like in the 1995 manual. It must be that the equipment is the same but they stopped including the protocol program in the manuals. For all I know the system in your 2006 may be entirely different from the 2001.
