i tried to program my new keyfob today, on my 2003 aviator.
owner manual says cycle ignition key from on to lock position 8 times, stopping at on position, then doors should lock and unlock to tell you that you are in programming mode
i've tried it several times and cannot get into programming mode for some reason
Are you using the new key? You will have to use a key that is already programmed to get into the programming mode, and, in fact, you will need another good key in roder to prgram a third.
i'm not trying to program a key...i am trying to program a new keyfob, aka a remote.
my wife lost one and owner's manual says you can program up to four at a time, but you have to get the car into "programming mode", which is where i am having a problem
Sorry, I missed your point there. Does it tell you to make the on-off cycles in a specific number of seconds?
yes.
it says eight on-off cycles must take place within 10 seconds, which i made sure of.
at that point, according to manual, doors should lock and unlock (on their own) to verify that you are in programming mode...<<<<----that part is not happening, which tells me the vehicle isn't going into programming mode.
until it does, evidently, the new keyfobs cannot be re-programmed
OK, sorry for the bad info before, but I just looked up my mountaineer instructions, and my book says: swithch from lock to ACC first, then switch from ACC to ON 8 times, and the doors will unlock, etc to indicate programming mode.
Are you sure your book doesn't say ACC instead of Lock? It could be different from mine, but mine (Mountaineer) says ACC.
Good luck anyway!
2003 lincoln aviator then to page 162, it says position 1 (lock), to position 3 (on)...this is the same instructions as my owner's manual, but for the heck of it, i'll try your way tomorrow and see what happens
doors have to be "electronically unlocked" first, which in this case means, opened via the door panel mounted lock button and not using the existing and functional keyfob...
step 1. make sure vehicle is electronically unlocked
i wrongly assumed that if i unlocked doors like i do any other day, with the keyfob, that the doors were in fact "electronically unlocked"....little did i know that wasn't the case...
thanks very much for the help
i have found (and not just here) that with this vehicle any online technical support or help is very, VERY limited. it seems most everyone is more concerned with their shiny new overpriced rims, or what kind of wax to use, than with trying to help someone with an actual technical problem....
