Thumbs up Keyless Entry Range

I have a 2004 xlt f150 Screw and noticed that the range on my Keyfob is really short. I used different keyfobs with no batteries and the range is only like 10-15 ft. I used a keyfob from my 2002 explorer sport with the same results. I used to be able to use the explorer keyfob from 100 ft away. Whats up with that? Is anyone else having the same problem.

I noticed same. Guess that's the way they are making them now. My new truck has the same range as my wife's VW. On my 2001 Ranger, you could double click on the fob at the door of a WalMart and lock the doors anywhere in the parking lot.

I had the same experience with my Ranger. I could click from a different state to lock or unlock the doors. My wife's Escape has a short range, just like my 2005 F150.

I guess I dont feel as bad. I changed all 3 batteries in my keyfobs and was scratching my head. I guess the receivers in the new f150s is not as good as the older ones.

I have found that if I hold the button down a little longer, say 1-2 seconds, instead of just hitting the button quickly, that I get a much better range from from the fob. Don't know why, but it works for me.

I would say my range is about 25 ft too. I had an 03 ranger that had a much longer reach.

Someone posted that Ford changed this for security reasons. My aftermarket AutoLoc remotes will go over 300'

I found I get better range if I use a broom stick to punch the code on my keyless entry pad .

increased range

I know this sounds (and looks) crazy, but touch the keyfob to your chin while pushing the lock or unlock button. Instant range increase! Now go try it right now and post here if it works (my car-nut son taught me this).

i tried the transmitter to the chin deal and it always works with other ford explorers ive had but not this one. I think with an aftermarket viper alarm, i was able to get about 400+ feet. I loved it. This sucks

On the flip side I often worry about unlocked doors when I spot my six year old with my keys. I also would not want such a great range that I could mistakenly unlock my truck while digging in my pockets.
