I bought a 1995 Ranger that has an alarm system but there were no remote transmitters (keyfob) with it. I got the original specifications and optional equipment for this vehicle from Ford and it says it came with an anti-theft system. It does not say it had some form of keyless entry (keypad or keyfob). I bought two replacement keyfobs but I can't get them to program. They will program on my 2001 so I think they are OK. The 95 owners manual does say that keyfobs were available and a picture shows that it had two batteries. The replacement ones I bought and my 2001 keyfob have a single battery.
Did 95s ever come with an anti-theft system but without keyfobs? The manual says there are key fobs but doesn't say all 95s had them. Someone on eBay is advertising a keyfob for various 94-97 Ford models. That keyfob was mfg by TRW. Does anyone have a 95 with a factory alarm system that uses keyfobs? Thought I'd ask before I start trying to fix something that isn't broken.
Thanks...........Ed
I appreciate your suggestion. However, whenever I post questions on this forum, I have already checked with service departments at the two largest dealerships in my area. The problem is that many are not familiar with minute specifics of vehicles that are 10 -15 years old. On the other hand, owners of these vehicles often have detailed knowledge because of their extreme interest in a particular model.
Nonetheless, today I made a discovery. I remembered that I have two Ford keyfobs that are used on my 1999 Prevost bus (motorhome). I tried them on the 95 Ranger and they work! So the answer to my original question is that the TRW 3 or 4 button remote with the FCC ID GQ43VT4T DOC 1470 K763 TRW Inc 3165189 is compatible with the RAP module of a 95 Ranger. Further, one is designated "Transmitter" and the other is "Transmitter 2". This keyfob was supposedly used from 1994 to 1997. Some of our 98 owners might wish to let us know whether their remotes are the same number or whether they are in the 99 up style. My 2001 has this ID, FB-15K601A FCC ID:CWTWB1U212 CAN:1788 102 353. I don't know how far beyond 2001, this particular remote is used.
Also of interest to me, and perhaps to others, is that even though the 95 did not have a keyless entry system, all of the wiring, including the antenna to the RAP module, is present. In order to upgrade, I only had to get compatible keyfob remotes.
Sorry to revive an old thread but i also have a 1995 Ranger that has power locks and the anti theft wiring plug on the passenger door lock cylinder but not on the drivers door lock, the blue plug is hanging inside the door. I have a keyless entry fob, TRW 3165189 that i picked up on ebay. I tried to enter the progamming mode by cycling ignition 5 and 8 times and ending in run but the doors locks would not lock and unlock. Does anyone know if this has anything to do with the drivers door lock cylinder being changed out to one without anti theft and the plug just hanging in the door? Where is the rap module located in this ranger? Thanks.
Found the rap module above the left rear jump seat, checked the connections, removed the circuit board from the plastic case and had a look at all the solder connections. The board looks good, anybody have a wiring schematic as the haynes manual doesn't show much. How do you test this module?
Chiltons manuals have better wiring diagrams. The ford dealership can also print you up any diagram you want. Good luck! All my stuff is manual locks, prefer it that way. HAHA!
why does a 1995 ford rangerxL 3.0 engine 4r44e transmission hesitate badly from park to reverseor drive and neutral to reverse or drive does anyone know thank you mrcoffee
Hi rdhall, welcome to FTE. This is a great site for all things Ranger.
Unfortunately, by tacking your question onto someone else's question, it is unlikely that you will get much help. Instead, you should post your question as a new one. The only reason I saw your posting was because I was a responder to "ed-g35's" issue. Also, unfortunately, I am unable to help you with your issue.
