I have a 1998 ford explorer I am turning into a rockcrawler. I want to make it so it is a push button start and I need to disable the anti theft so I dont need a chipped key. I have read that if I ground the green and purple wire for the anti theft that that will disable it. Is this accurate and will I then be able to remove the steering column and say goodby to the key. This is going to have full hydraulic steering so I will be removing the whole steering column.
If not How do I shut off the pats system I have called the dealers in my area and they say they cant do it. and I have unplugged the anti theft box and then the motor wont start either.
I would have a tuner remove it. I can't find a remote start wire guide, but usually fords require a transponder that you wrap around the column. Check out directed's website, they should have several bypass kits available.

There is a transponder ring antenna around the key tumbler, this must see the transponder in the key..
If you remove the chip from the key and glue it to the transponder ring, the ECU/PATS will accept that a correct key is present.. you can the use a non coded key or a push button at you leasure
