Either way the crooked deal truck which I thought was owned by a woman I cant think of her name though. Anyways I thought that truck had a much bigger suspension lift on it then this one. Who knows though I am just going by a crappy video on youtube.
That Super Duty did have a lot of lift because it was on a ladder/tube frame. I just remember the tires werent all that big, possibly 35's. Melissa Dano was the driver, not sure if she owned it. Here's a better shot of tire size: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xo4x2o93BSE
Mine is coming along slow, but still moving. I was just going to fire it up again today. Recently, I sent out the intake and turbo housing to get polished, plus I got a smokin deal on a second turbo. I wasnt planning on running compounds(twins), but it's hard to pass up $150 for an HT3B. Then I'll get that to the polisher guy. He's doing the polishing as an advertisement for his mobile polishing biz. Transmission is next, then I can pull my 300. This 6.6 is nearly as long as a DT466, but like 3" shorter. The 466's are better looking over all, except I like my 'ford' oval on the valve cover.
I've got a DT466E in my dump truck. Stock they have only 190 HP from what I've heard. I blew the motor a couple weeks ago and its being rebuilt by International. I would like to try and get a bit more ponies out of it without spending alot of cash and loosing its reliability. Anyone have any ideas what I can do ??? I'd like to get it up 50-100 Hp
While it's in the shop, see if they'll swap in different injectors. Generally, IH wont go for power increases without making you spend an extra $15k to cover their liability.
Depending on the year it is, there's a couple to choose from. The best in the bunch is a body code of BP. If you dont tow too heavy, it may be just fine, but there's a good chance the stock turbo wont flow enuf air. If it has a split radiator, that's even worse. There's a few more options then there was when this thread first started. The most cost effective is to have the injectors extrude honed to the desired hp level. That way, there's no worries if a different injector is compatible(single shot/split shot). The engine's hp rating is listed on the valve cover.
Thanks Dale.. Ya its a newer Dt466e 1996 I believe. It has the split rad / intercooler. I do tow quite heavy and do lots of heavy hauling with the gravel truck.. So I can't get carried away.. Just want to get a bit more juice out of it. Would a better turbo help ? Chip ??
96 is actually older, as in, older than 2000. Yours may not even be split shot injectors, so those BP codes wouldnt work. With the split radiator, you really shouldnt be going over 250hp. A bigger turbo wouldnt do much, the ones they come with are pretty efficient(Garrett GT37). The performance modules on the market would give yours about 5hp. The injectors are what's holding it back. At wrecking yards, I've seen a full size rad for $500, and intercooler for $350. You can use one from 93-02. It's one less worry.
I think $500 is pretty cheap for extrude honing.... That's if your injectors are still good. If you're replacing them with bigger ones, it usually runs $300 a piece.
There is no cheap way to get real performance from an electronic engine. Custom ECM tuning is about to hit the market in a couple months though. More timing, more rpm, and a fat fuel curve.
If they can agree to do a BD(body code) injector, that'll get you to about 250hp. If not, the BA will get you to 230. Chances are, they wont do it for EPA reasons, or liability reasons, or "torque ratings of the truck", or a few other reasons. Really, they shouldnt squabble at the BA injectors. Your OEM injectors are either a BB or BC code(175-190hp). The BA is 230-250hp, and the BD is 250-300hp for a 530. I can get you some Alliant power numbers if you like, that's what IH uses.
That would be great if you could dig up those numbers... I was at Ih today and they were humin and hawin if they would put in any other injector except for the stock replacements for warrantee reasons. I told them to look into it as I would like to upgrade the injectors. So if I can do some homework for them.. They may go for it. They quoted me like $2300 for a set of injectors.. Quite high form what I've heard you can get them for.
These are the numbers for Alliant:
The BD: AP63808BD
The BA: AP63805BA
That's pretty close to what you get em for online too. Do a search on those numbers, and you'll see. Now you know why most guys go with the extrude honing. $2300 vs $500.
