i was wondering if any one has successfully installed a dt 360 or dt 466 in a pickup. i have a ih 1900 and looking at the dt 466 it looks like it could be shoe horned in. i have contimplated the common cummins swap, but a dt 466 with an allison sound pretty cool, and i know it will pull anything .
I've always thought about it aswell. I think the length is the big problem here. The height can be dealt with by a hood modification. I've seen it done before. How much work? I dont know.
I do know someone who did get a DT466 in, but I never saw how it was done. You could always tell it was him, as he used the 9 speed behind it as well. He had to put a hood scoop on to fit it under the hood. I don't know any other details unfortunately.
On another site, their is one being done, but it has been a real headache of a project, as the trans bell is too big, forcing sheet metal work on the trans tunnel. I agree, the DT360 looks to be a better option.
A 466 will fit in a Super Duty with a little firewall sheetmetal work. The older the truck is, the more it's going to go back into the firewall. I also know a guy that's putting a 466 in his 74 F250. I'm doing it to my 99 F250, I just dont have the engine yet, but have the Allison that I got for 100 bux. The 466 MUST have a rear sump pan in order to fit. The 360 would fit a whole lot easier, and can withstand higher hp much longer than a Cummins 5.9. A 466 is way overkill, unless you plan on sled pulling or racing. Besides, you can pick up a 360 for about $1500.

Keep checking Craigslist, and the 4X4 sites for rollovers. Maybe you could get one for a couple hundred, then would be much less stress test fitting & cutting. If the 'Binder engine (466) has a rotary injector pump, then it wouldnt be worth the time & effort. Anything from 84-95 for truck engines, not sure on ag. The holy grail is the 94.5-95, they had the same style P-pump as the 6BT Cummins(performance potential), shorter stroke(4k + rpm potential), and roller lifters.
hmmm... I'm thinking you can pick up a an Ag style 466 out of a tractor for fairly cheap... Of course it would need some work. They are a dime a dozen around here
i was planning on getting motor/trans from school bus (cheap) any concerns?
also was thinking of divorced transfer case. i assumed i had to modify tunnel, but what about using a cab from an f600,would there be too many other differences? how much can i reasonably tune the 360 or 466? this truck is gunna work,(bad *** hay hauler) if i had lots of money or luck, i'd start with a 550 chassis and running gear, then set a 97 crew cab and bed on it with an 86 nose, but thats just dreaming. as of now the truck is 86 f350.anyways i appreciate any advice.
The cabs are the same, just that the 600 sits higher in relation to the powertrain, due to the larger frame rails. That kind of swap actually has also been done, swapping a lighter chassis body on to a medium duty frame.

How much power the engine makes depends on your wallet. Sled pullers use these engines for competition, if that tells you anything. I talked with a few pullers, and the 360 is good to about 1200hp and still stay together. The 466, those are pushing 2500+hp. In the real world, Keep the 360 under 600hp, and the 466 under about 800. Both can spin to almost 4500 on stock internals. http://rides.webshots.com/album/5583...ions/FullAlbum
This 466 came from a bus with an AT545, which he sold to me. He's going to run an Alli 1000. They have lower power ratings, but aftermarket injectors would be needed anyway. The ones Strokerin is using in the 74 are guaranteed to be at least 450hp with his turbos & pump settings.
