I have a performer intake that was shaved on the sides to fit with heads. The intake wouldnt sit flush with valve cover mounting surface as it sit high.Either the heads or block were shaved, not sure of which one, but it was basciaclly out the thickness of the side manifold gaskets. With no gaskets in place the intake fit proper so we shaved that amount of material off. Now where can I find thick intake manifold gaskets to be able to run this on a block that hasnt been shaved?? stock gaskets are about .060 so I think I would need some .090 ones as i seem to recall we took .030 off
You can't find thick gaskets but you could double them up. I don't think that is a good idea, but............. But if the heads or block are cut a lot you have cut the intake to make it fit correctly.
I don't think I've ever heard of thicker intake gaskets (not that it means anything). This ain't no CHEVY.
What you do is - if you have to shave the combustion side of the heads, mill the intake side of the HEAD also. This will allow the STOCK intake to fit correctly without shaving the intake.
The intake should never be milled. Why? Because it leads to this exact issue. It's unusable on another motor.
Either double the intake gaskets (questionable if it'll work) or mill the combustion side of the heads
