Yeah, I saw them there a few weeks back. I haven't had head problems yet (under 500 miles put on it by myself) but I thought about ordering them before the prices went up.

Check the thread "Why do head gaskets blow?" I wrote it with you in mind.

I agree! I drove my truck around a few weeks before I was able to take it in. As long as I didn't tow anything the truck ran like there was nothing wrong... well besides the smell of coolant in the cab, water spots around the degauss bottle and running a little warm.

yea, i took a better look today. it doesn't look like the cap was loose, there was some coolant around the cap, but it hadn't run down anywhere. There was a small spot on the driveway, but a lot of it on the suspension, front drive shaft and on the frame all on the driver's side. From a quick look, i can't see any bad hoses or anything and i can't tell where it's coming from. i may have to go to the dealer, but i have to wait for SCT to send my livewire back so i can return the truck to stock. i don't think it's headgaskets bc i dont smell anything in the cab and the truck runs fine.......

about 47k....if it was the HG's, would the leak be coming from the bottom of the engine or from the top?

I'm no expert on this but it seemed like mine either came out of the degas bottle and spewed all over the front driverside suspension or the head warpage cause it to come out between the head and the block. This is just a guess, maybe someone who knows more on the subject will come along and correct me.

No, I believe when the egr cooler goes it leaks coolant into the cylinders causing your truck to blow white smoke like crazy at idle and this will cause a definate loss in power.

Take it to the dealer and the will do an inline pressure test. If it reads over 12 psi the h/g's are bad.

If your gaskets infact have to be changed.. Most dealers won't bicker too much if you request ARP Studs.. As grumpy as they can be, 90% of the dealers do know the bolts aren't the greatest, even in stock mode.. I've met and talked to quite a bit of Service Managers around Texas.. Just from truck shows and so fourth.. Lot of them have told me that if a customer needs their heads removed and gaskets replaced.. If it falls under warranty as a problem not related to tuner, then they will offer to put ARP Studs in if the customer purchases them.

So if you take it in and they say the gaskets need replaced, just ask them if you can bring them ARP Studs and have those put in instead of TTY bolts.. Most will say sure.. Unless you get those real GRUMPY ones LOL

When my head gaskets blew the only leaking coolant were small drops of coolant around the degauss bottle but when I pulled up to a stop sign after the truck had warmed up, there was a pretty strong smell of coolant inside the cab. I didn't have any coolant leaking anywhere else. I guess it would depend on how severe the gaskets are. No worries, if you have a good diesel mechanic at your local dealership they can have it fixed in a day or two. They should replace the degauss bottle too, they did on mine.
