Most of you know that I am in the middle of putting the body from my 66 on to a 79 frame & running gear...
You thoughts on Frame VIN, door tag being different... would I re-register/title the truck as a 79? or leave it as a 66
which leads to this:
Also thinking of using the 66's frame for a rat rod truck project with a early 30's body on it... would the VIN on the 66 frame be an issue? If I re-title the 66 as a 79 then I could use the title from the 66 for the rat rod truck project...
Is not NC one of the latest states to prohibit frame swaps? All depends on what your DMV accepts. if it is allready NC titled i would leave it as a 66. The frames are similar enough for a class one inspection. IE it looks stock......
Most states have passed or are reviewing frame swapping due to the huge influx of vehicles being traded and sold accross the country. Another E bay thanks....
As a 79 it would have to meet all federal requirements for saftey for that year of manufacture and may in the future need to meet emmissions standards.
I agree with Garbz; keep it title as a 66; and when you convert your 30's onto your 66 chassis, I would make it a 30's title. In my opinion; suspension shouldn't be a factor in determing the model/body style. I've got a friend who build two Dodge brother trucks a 33 & 39 onto S-15 frame's with chexy engines; the local DMV has them as dodges ;on the title. He also fabricated a body onto a Pontiac lemans frmae and left it as a pontiac. So its a question I would ask my DMV. But emission is a killer on my friends in other counties here in Tennessee.
Already titled in NC as a 66... I had to do a VIN trace (rub paper over the VIN with a pencil) and take it back to them... I used the door tag... It worked so I guess I'll leave it that way...

Why did you have to do that? There must be more to the story that you have told.
no more to the story... My Dad passed the truck on to me... last titled/registered in PA... They told me out of state vehicles prior to ???? year had to have a VIN rub???
