trim?can it be rmoved

ok so i am posibly going to go look at a truck out of state. its a nice 2003 with a 7.3 in it only 70,000 on it. lariat very clean. Only problem is its got some really dumb stuff done to it. It has the chrome trim above the wheel wells. Can it be easily removed???

The chrome wheel lip moldings are stock on a Lariat and I think there are holes in the fender lip for them to mount with. Leave them on unless you plan on replacing with a larger flare. Truck looks real nice though, good find with the late model 7.3L.

I have never seen a stock lariat with the chrome on the wheel wells. Mine does not have any chrome nor did it. You could remove it just be careful as you do some use adhesive to mount to the wheel wells.

thats what i like to hear. do most use adheasive if they are aftermarket. im assuming if i heat it up and use dental floss i should be able to remove them and then just use an adhesive remover to get the rest then just buff the paint.

A lot do use adhesive just make sure you look at them real good to find out what is holding them look under the wheel wells and see if they are also screwed in then just remove as you said with some heat and floss. I don't think they look to bad either but on the same note I real don't like chrome that much either though.

When you go look at the truck kinda pull on them a little to see if they are stuck on or if they are loosely mounted. Also ask the dealer about them see if they know much about them. I would say they are more than likely mounted with screws under the well and adhesive on the fender.

Are you going to change to door handles too? If not maybe leave the wheel moldings. Also, check if the previous owner has the stock door handles.

yes, definitely agree on ditching the trim, makes it look cheap and cheesy, like autozone had a sale.

anyways, alot of guys run fishing wire behind the side molding to get them off, essentially using it like dental floss along with some heat.. then clean up with some mild cleaner. you might be able to do so with the moldings too.

yeh i would be taking the chrome door handles off as well. yeh that may be how they are mounted with screws underneath and adhesive on the fenders. that would be awesome. i just dont want the paint to be diff colors underneath pending on how long they were on. thats what i thought about em too. cheap autozone junk. thanks for the ideas guys. i guess i can try and pull part of it off while im here haha.

If the original owner doesn't have the stock door handles, maybe start a new thread and see if you can find someone close by that wants to trade. Some people like the looks of the chrome handles.
