My dads truck had both windows quit working within a week of each other. The motor runs and will roll down fine but when you roll up the motor runs and the window doesn't go up. Is there a gear that the center slips in after they get some age? I haven't pulled the door apart yet and if this is a common thing that you guys know what to buy ahead of time it would be easier to get the parts ahead of time.
The most common failure with these motors are the composite drive gear busings.. 3 small rollers that harden and breakup. I have found rebuild kits on Ebay for as little as $0.99. Here is what the gearbox looks like inside..
You can get a rebuild kit in the "HELP" section of Auto Zone or other parts store for $10. Real easy to do once you get the motor out.
One trick to get the motor out of the inside of the door: Once you get the door panel off, you'll see a dimple on the inside shell of the door that lines up with a bolt on the inside of the shell that holds the motor on. Drill a 1/2" hole using those dimples as a pilot and then you have a hole to stick your socket through to unbolt the motor.
