Window motors?

I'VE HAD ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!

My back driver side window is having a hard time rolling up and down right now, and I don't think the passenger side is far behind as its slow rolling up.

The driver side you some times you gotta beat on the door to get it to go up and then give it a helping hand.

How hard is it to replace the motors on the back doors? Any write ups out there?

They are not hard, just get somebody with small hands to help.

Gotta drill holes into the doors to get to the rivets and then make room to get the driver in to re-install.

Pretty strait forward.

I'm pretty sure there is a write up in here someplace.

The finding someone with small hands is the hard part.

All my friends are lazy. I think I need to make some new ones.

Where is the best place to buy the motor?

After you remove the inner door panel, you're going to have to drill three holes on the doors to get to the bolts on the existing motors. There are some dimples on the door that show you where to drill. I think it took a half inch bit to get the holes big enough to get my socket in there to loosen the bolts. Start small and work your way up in size. Be sure to tape your windows securely in the up position before you remove the old motors or the window will fall into the door risking breakage. After that it's just remove and replace. A little tape on the socket helps to get the replacement screws started. I got my motors from LMC Truck. Way cheaper than locally. Yes, small hands definitely help, but I'm a fairly big guy and I managed. Hope this helps!

OK OK OK. I thought you were talking about drilling the rivets out on the doors. But he is talking about drilling holes to get to bolts on the motor.

He said what I meant.

I couldn't' remember if the motors were riveted in or bolted though either.

I'll tell ya this much, my door has 3 holes in it.

The funny part is, the stock window motor works better than the replacement window motor does.
Plus the window aligns better on the stock of course.

It's not really a plug and play thing, you gota do some adjustments.

It's good to get a quality motor as well, not just a cheepie.

Dont' forget to lube the hell out of the rails and such too.

They don't usually go out because of use, but because they are over-worked due to resistance.

x2 what Talyn said about lube. Also since you have that door panel off; now is a good time to replace the anti-rattle strips if they are all cracked and dried out. Will help that window glide up and down a lot smoother. Some of the best advice I can give you is to take your time when removing and replacing those bolts because if you drop your socket into the door I promise you it will be one of those FML moments! LOL! Ask me how I know! I had to get one of those telescopic magnetic retrieval tools to get mine back. Good luck!

These window motors usually "go out" simply due to broken plastic rollers. The motor still runs, but the window goes nowhere... You can take the motor apart and replace those three plastic rollers with some regular old steel or stainless steel nuts. Problem solved.

You can see the two of the three little plastic rollers that sit under the steel gear here.

Yeah, something like that, but those 3 little plastic rollers under the steel gear is what usually breaks and causes these problems. All you need is 3 steel nuts that will fit snug in place of those plastic rollers and it'll work just fine.
