Two or more really stupid injector install questions?!
I'm putting in my rebuilt injectors and they were gone at the shop so long I can't remember which bolt goes on top, the big shoulder one or the normal looking one? Or should I call it the fat head bolt that the threads don't start for a 1/2" or so. OK, once I get that figured out, don't you put in the bottom bolt first and then the top bolt in? But, to put the top bolt in, don't you have to remove the top of the injector (the four screws that hold the top on) to make room for the 8mm deep socket? Maybe someone can point me to a good article on injector install. I also could not tell for sure when the injector was all the way down, they say to tap it with a rubber mallet but there is not much room for that. Any help would greatly be appreciated, Glenn

Scatgo, Thanks for that article. All the other articles I read didn't mention leaving the top bolt in and just removing the bottom bolt. Now I have forgotten which goes where and mixed up my bolts and broke off one in the bottom hole. What a nightmare! Another stupid question is when you turn over the motor by hand, nobody memtions which way. Is it clockwise or counterclockwise. I'm just having a bad day and my brain is shutting down. I've got to figure out how to get that damn bolt out and if I have to rethread it to a larger hole where in God's name I'm I going to get a proper fitting bolt for new size threads???

turn the motor by hand by putting a ratchet on the crank pulley bolt. I think its a 21mm or 22mm (7/8th)
On you broken bolt is there any sticky up above the head? if so use vise grips. if not the peice that is stuck might be loose in there. Try with a small dental pick or very small screwdriver to pick it around and see if you can thread it out. If not your looking at drilling it out.

Doesn't matter, OK, Thanks. I'll go clockwise so the crank bolt doesn't loosen. I tried lots of stuff but ended up drilling it out. Does anybody know the size of the threads, I'll have to tap the hole? Also, which bolt goes where, the normal verse the fat head one with no threads for a 1/2'" or so. Which one on top, which one on the bottom? Keep it coming guys, I've never done injectors before!!! Thanks-a-lot!

Thanks, I figured that out today. You tighten them in and then put the injector in making sure you get the flange over the top bolt, then tighten the bottom. No wonder I had so much trouble. Any way, I drilled out the broken stud and tapped it with a M6-1 tap. Looks OK but I'll probably use lock tight on it just in case. What a screw up, live and learn.

Well, I got six out of 8 injectors in. Back passenger one after I remove that plate and the front drivers side I screwed up, still have to find another bolt to use. I befieve the tap is 'OK' but would you guys use lock tight or is there something better? I want it to stay put, any suggestions? Thanks, Glenn

The stock bolts have a taper on the bottom to center the injector hold down, be good to get another of those if possible. If not I suppose a standard M6 bolt the right length will work in a pinch. If your threads are good then you shouldnt need loctite but if they feel loose then its not a bad idea, just make sure you get it tight enough to get some crush on that copper washer.
If you dont feel comfortable with a standard bolt I have a bunch of inj bolts at the shop I can send you one up.

Bean, I feel like an idiot, that's what I get for skim reading. You clearly stated in your article "Remove the bottom bolt only". Bottom line, I wasn't thinking. If I can't find another bolt at Ford's or International, I'll take you up on your offer. I got the seven other injectors in, torqued, glow plugs out and motor turned over. Thanks, Glenn
