Need some help finding stroker kits.
Summit wants $1800 for the Ford Motorsports. And PAW just told me that they don't have a stroker kit.
I've heard of some independent guys that put together kits w/Chevy rods and stroked 460 cranks w/pistons, rings and bearings.
Anybody know of someone?
I'll do it myself if I have to but not that excited about all the research and the chances of doing it wrong.
Thanks
Try Speed-O-Motive. They have a 495 cu. in. kit that uses Pontiac 6.630" rods with a TRW forged piston $1,195. There number is (562)945-2758
Just a word of advice...I would not use any of the stroker kits for racing unless you use a "3Y" crank as a minimum, better yet buy a forged crank.

Thanks for the reply. It won't be for racing. I'm restoring a 1947 Ford Cab Over Engine (COE) truck to haul my vintage road race cars to the tracks here in N. Calif. The flathead won't make it for the hills around here, especially the entrance road to the Laguna Seca race track (in Monterey, CA) which is about a 10% grade.
I'd forgotten about Speed-o-motive, I bought a bunch of flathead bearings for my stroker motor from them. I spent about two hours going through a buch of boxes in their warehouse.
Thanks again.

thanks for the referral to Coast. Now, all I have to find out is if there will be an compression differences between their wedge engines and my Boss 429 heads. I'll call them to see what chamber cc they assume.
Thanks again.
I didn't realize you had boss heads. It may get a little tricky because they use longer rods with custom pistons. Basically they change the pin height to work with the extra rod and stroke length, don't know if they can do this with Boss pistons. Just thinking out loud, they're very helpful on the phone so you should get some decent answers. I'd have to think they've done a Boss motor before, the extra cubes should really wake up the motor and take advantage of those ports. I'm jealous.
I got the below reply from stroker kits. I'll have to measure the port volume to see which makes sense.
Coast hasn't gotten back to me yet. Their web site doesn't list their standard stroker kits, so I'll have to call them.
You're right that it should wake it up. The ports are so big that they really don't start to work until the higher RPMs. You can drop a tennis ball in the intake port and as a result, the low RPM torque sucks. The other problem is intakes. The selection of intakes is really small for that motor and the stock intake really sucks. I have an experimental single plane intake that I'll try with an 850 double pumper.
Should be interesting.
I tried the car on road race tracks. It has good acceleration but the brakes and turning was really bad. All that weight on the front end made it push like crazy and the brakes would fade really badly too. You do a lot of praying going into corners in that car!
Here's Stroker kits response:
Hello, thank you for your interest in www.strokerkits.com There are 2 different piston rod combos with the 502 cubic inch kit. The 6.7" long rod and -33cc dish piston combo yeilds a 9.6 to 1 with a 76cc head and 8.3 to 1 with a 93cc head.
The 6.8" long rod and -20cc dish piston combo would yeild a 10.7 to 1 with a 76cc head and 9.1 to 1 with a 97cc head.
Let us know if this helps, thanks Matt
This kinda late, but I have some good info. on using the Chevy rods and such to make a 460 a 520 after boring it .030 over. Let me know if you would like some more info.
