Looking at taking some logs off of a piece of property, how much can i tow at a time? Safely and without breaking parts left and right...
my truck is a bone stock 1996 F250 PSD, Auto tranny (recently replaced) with 3.55 gears and stock size tires...
Thanks guys!
With a reciever hitch (under bumper, square tube) it depends on what the hitch and receiver are rated at. 10,000 is usually max for those. some are less.
With a 5th wheel or goose neck (2 5/16 ball in bed) up to 12-14K would be max. But when towing power and suspension aren't your only concerns. Stopping is one of the largerest concerns as well as safety controlling and steering with those large loads.
ok, thanks tj.
dont imagine im going over 8k a load, it's not to long of a trip to the lumber mill from where im loading... just take a slightly smaller load for safety and ease...
is there a rear disc brake conversion readily available? i'd like to do that whether or not im towing, but especially if i am...

if i'm not mistaken drums have better stopping power than discs. thats why they are still on semis. discs are just so much easier to service
Not quite. I can tell you for sure putting rear disc brakes on your truck will make it stop MUCH better. Drum brakes are still on semi's cause they are much more pratical then trying to get air disc brakes. Semi drum brakes work very good but they are also HUGE.
