Reason: info
'94 ranger is OBD-I, newer '00-08 rangers are OBD-II. SAE standard OBD-II reader is required.... European Ranger OBD-II too, but work with k-line obd-II reader (ISO)....
Actually you don't need anything, as you can just run your ride by your favorite autoparts store for a no cost computer trouble code scan.
BUT, as has been said, if you want to scan for codes yourself, you'll need a device to do it on your 2000 ODB-2 Ranger.
Depending on how deep you want to get into diagnostics, will govern which diagnostic too you choose & how much you'll invest, as has also been said.
We recently discussed the different scantool options back in Sept 07, in this thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...-all-have.html that you might find useful in helping to decide which scan tool type & is best for you.
I took it to autozone and they wouldnt pull the codes because the 'check engine' light wasnt on, just the od light...
Overdrive codes are not stored in the PCM. Which means standard OBD-II code readers are not able to read codes relating to the OD lamp. A more sophisticated scanner is necessary for that, one that Autozone does not have.
more suffisticated scanner is more expencive, I think no reason to have it becouse OBD-II adapters for PC are available, like rather suffisticated programs for PC letting many things...
What will I do hundred miles far from any town and no cars on road.... wait for help having one brocken wire... I prefere to know all..... May be I'm a strange one, but I have always tools and some parts (like TFI and 2 park lugs and other under driver's seat...) with me and for last 10 years I newer used tow truck. Even with failed clutch I drow starting with gear on to workshop....
