I installed my new Edelbrock Performer intake and 1406 carb but I can't figure out how to connect the trans kickdown rod. It seems the throttle rod will connect just fine to the ball end bolt but not both. I bought the kit 1483 thinking it was it but not I think it may be the wrong thing. I am posting some pics so you can see exactly what I am talking about. If any of you have the same setup and some pics to show how you connected it please share or if you can explain to me how I connect both rods. The top pic is with the new intake and carb installed. Today I installed a 1" polysomething spacer between the carb and intake and a banjo fitting on the fuel line but just couldn't figure out the throttle.
Well it isn't installed on your first pic there. It just bolts on to the existing Edelbrock throttle lever. Then you install the spring clamp on the front carb holddown stud. Then the kickdown is c-clipped onto the new lever. If you installed that 1 inch spacer you might have to fabricate an extension to get the lever to meet the kickdown.
If your bottom picture of your first post is how it was set up on the Motorcraft carb. you need to scratch that from your head, it is all wrong. The kick down installs with the 1483 part you have but understand your kickdown rod moves freely until you throttle is further opened. It down not operate exactly with your throttle linkage.
I understand so far that the throttle will connect to the edelbrock linkage that is already on the carb and the 3 hole metal piece that came in the 1483 kit will screw to the front right side base of the carb as you look at it from the front of the hood. Now I got to figure out how the kick down connects to the 3 hole metal thing with the 2 bolts?? Does it somehow connect to the throttle linkage somehow?
Ok I was looking over the Edelbrock catalog and noticed I have the part #1493 and not the #1483 which is the part shown in the install diagram posted above.
Psquare - did you have to use the #1493 or just the 1483 only for your setup?
This is the 1483
I did this on a 351w in a 83 and had to use a longer kickdown rod fron a 460 to have enough length. But I here edelbrock sells a rod extension if needed.
So I hooked up the 1483 part but I just don't understand how the actual throttle and trans rods connect to it. Can someone somehow explain it to me or just post a picture of how you have yours connected? Right now I am stuck on this part. I was told before the trans kick down connects to the arm that moves and has the screw and spring on it but I can't figure out how to make it stay?? Any help?
