Brake hose compression????

Had ball joints replaced on my 2001 Excursion--after getting it back the truck was pulling like crazy to one side, seems the brake hose was collapsing and causing the caliper to drag...never seen this before. My garage covered the repair and resurfaced my rotors for free but maybe I should replace the other side too??? Anybody had this happen?

I have heard of brake line getting pinched causing a problem, but never collapsing. Are you sure they didnt pinch it.?

I bet they took the hub and spindle assembly off and let one side hang by the brake hose or somehow manipulated it causing the rupture inside. It wouldn't hurt to replace the other one.

Do they make stainless steel brake hoses for the Excursion by any chance?

Brake hose collapse is common with old hoses. I've seen it many, many times working in commercial shops.

It's possible that the shop left the hose connected to the caliper and moved out of the way to do the ball joints and kinked the hose in the process. Then the hose collapsed after the reinstall, probably why they ate the repair. A good shop would.

Having the inner liner (rubber) of a brake hose seperate from the corded reinforcement is not all that common but does happen. The main cause is that DOT 3 brake fluid picks up water and then is acidic or alkali (I cant remember which one).
This will wear the rubber and then will tear in cold weather once it gets stiff.
Preventive bleeding of the system when the brake fluid gets looking like weak coffee or once every 3 years is best.
Also make sure to open bleeder screw when you replace your brake pads when pushing caliper piston back. All that overheated fluid in the caliper has alot of debris and broken down/acidic fluid to contaminate the ABS system.
Rich.

Thanks, I figured they might have caused it during the ball joint repair and that's why they ate the bill....
