It's a great idea for a certain category of people. And I think it'd be a much better deal in a van.

Just think of all the electrical, sheet metal, plumbing contractors out there that use vans. And not jsut one. Many of these companies have fleets of vehicles. Big sales for Ford??

The system would prolly pay for itself with jsut a couple of jobs. Say a guy left a tool on a jobsite. If the system did'nt tell him it was missing. He could lose a half a day of production, the next day. Chasing down the forgotten tool.
Plus they could inventory parts on the jobs. Many pumbers, electrictions, ect, carry a buttload of parts inventory on board.

I can see it being very usefull to a certain category of people.

glad to see this going to all F trucks and the E series vans instead of just the f150 like it first sounded like

I think those are some awesome ideas. I can already see them being used in our company's. If they get it working correctly it will really be a great feature for a lot of people.

I have my own electrical contracting company and do think that those options could come in very handy.
However, the real value will be depend on the cost.
I can buy a cable lock for $20 and laptop computer for less than $500.
Still it's nice to see that they're making an effort to help me.
Now about that 35 MPG...

"I can buy a cable lock for $20 and laptop computer for less than $500. "

You can also UPGRADE those very reasonably, fix them with standard components, and relocate them where you please.

RFID tool control solutions sound lovely until you consider what it will take to implement them (durable RFID chips for each tool and a good system for implanting them). In serious use, it's tough enough to get etched and stamped numbers to survive, let alone anything more complex.

I think its a pretty cool idea actually. I personally have no use for it but i think it'd be nice for people who have a ton of tools and are worried about losing stuff.

Well once they were working with Dewalt I wonder if the tools will start coming already implanted with the chips. Just a thought.

Yeah i wonder, it would suck if the tools were more expensive, OR if you bought the RFID accessory for preexisting tools but they were really expensive. I want more details.
