Here is how to time a 5.4:
If you can't see the gold links on the chain lay it on a table and stretch it out like this
========= at one end the link will be like l and the other end will be = . Mark all 3 links with white paint or something that will not rub off. These are your timing marks. Turn the crank so the key is at 12 o-clock and there will be a line on the crank sprocket at 7 o-clock. Set the left cam timing mark to 12 o-clock and the rt cam to 11 o-clock. Install the straight guides and the left chain first placing the single white link on the crank mark and the double white links on either side of the cam mark. Repeat for the right side then install the tensioner arms and then the tensioners. You need to compress the tensioners before you can install them. Stick a small screwdriver in the lock to release it and push in the plunger. Then push in the small ratchet arm and insert a small pin or paper clip into the hole to hold the tensioner retracted. Double-check the marks before you install the timing cover. DONT forget the crank sensor trigger wheel or you will be chasing a no-start concern (don't ask how I know LOL)
So the crank mark is supposed to be at 7 not 6? Key at 10 not 1? I kept getting told 6 everywhere I look. I'm trying to do my 5.4 Triton 2valve. I had it once and put the tension bars on wrong sides n it jumped like 2 links fixed it and tried to turn it manually but I get 3/4 the way around and it seems like something is stopping me from going farther... any suggestions? All help appreciated

It means you are kissing a valve. Better recheck your alignment carefully.
If you send me your email address via PM I'll send the page on cam timing from my manual to you.
is that page for a 2002 5.4? If so can I get a copy of it? Also does it have anything on how to make sure valves aren't bent? I timed according to maculoco yt video but accidentally put tension bars on ring side.. started it to test, next time I tried it made a not good noise so am retiming. Tried to by hand turn to make sure everything is good but something stops me from being able to do a full rotation I'll add pic of my retiming so anyone who would be so kind to inspect it and let me know if good or what I need to do to correct it
im to new a user to pm as far as I know but my emails jake349026@gmail.com
I don't see were it's off all pictures are what I see online as examples for example of my timing job
I just made a thread explaining my whole story of the job from the start if you wanted to look into it
From the pics your timing is spot on. Just as long as the driver's side chain mark is on the crank dot directly behind the passenger side then its right.
I wish I had done it that way, the bolts on the flex connection was refusing to move when I tried that. But I will do that when I put it back in I'll break the bolt sandreplace them if necessary.. I got it tho atleast driver side. Anyone have any advice for removing valve stems from the springs without the special tools if possible?
And the person who told me how to get to them said I had to remove the manifold to remove it I wasn't sure if the bottom bolts was in the head or the engine block at the time

I loosened the cam bolts to lift the cam to replace the lifters and check the rocker arms while replacing the timing chains guides, tensioners, ,oil pump and water pump. I'm concerned about damaging pistons while replacing lifters and rocker arms when I tightening down the cam shaft so I can set the timing chains. I heard that if the crank key slot is at 12 o'clock all the pistons are down so none of the valves can hit any piston.
