Laugh all you want... but using a combination of both coils and leafs was quite common here as an aftermarket mod on a rear axle
(although not in place of shocks )
The leaf springs were essentially set up almost as "overload" springs...
Had an added bonus when you snapped a spring (quite common on our "roads") you still had something to support the axle, without running a bit of fencing wire around a piece of 4x2 in between the chassis rail and the axle...
Nowadays they have all gone to air-bag inside coil.
there is no way that many stupid people could find the same website and post some of this crazy stuff. im all for trying something new thats how things are invented and such. but dang how can you thing something like that is gonna work.
I can kind of see some sense behind his theory, but I can only imagine how wrong he is doing it. Better flex.... No.... you will be limited to the leaf springs flex....
What I'm getting from that thread is some guy says it will work.... Use just a main leaf to locate the axle, and the coil's/coilovers to control it. Axle wrap anyone?

oh I understand what he's thinking (or not), just had to comment on the little idea that they say works pretty good. Just a flaw.....we've all got em' right?
Yeah.. would the leaf spring still be connected at both ends? If it was only connected at towards the front of the frame how would it located the axle?
I think they were saying leave just the main leaf in stock form, then mount the coilover/coils to the axle... I really don't know, all this enjunearin stuff just makes my thinker hurt.
