right isn't a carrier, like a 8.8 you pop the axles and pull the housing? to get to the gears.

I knew the 9" had a center section. That's what I was wondering if like the 9" you could have multiple gear set's, so it's only about 30 min to change from one gear ratio to another.

on extreme 4x4 awhile back I saw what I think they called a D609, something like a cross between a D60 and 9".

to get to the gears on a 8.8 you pull the cover, not the housing. There are a few different axle that have removable third members. Rockwells, 9", gm 2.5 tons, toy axles ect.

Here's a 9" center section:

here's a carrer out of a 8.8
Not as simple of a swap as the 9"

It'd take some setting in to get it right, correct backlash, etc....

yeah but I wouldn't wont to gears on an 8.8 with it under the truck, that and you still gotta press the pinion on.

Rock's are out of my budget already know about the 9", don't wanna run anything GM on a ford (might curse it) and toy's that wouldn't even be practical. jmo

Yeah it's a PITA to set up I don't like um, and when I get the money I'm changing my stangs over to the 9".

I dont think they are all that F A W King special. What do you gain? Lets see ground clearance for one. How much over a shaved 60? Probably less than a inch. Cheap? I doubt it. By the time you buy outer Cs and knuckles attach them to a 9" housing buy custom 31spline shafts you could have bought a 60 front. Upgrades? If 31sp stuff isnt bling enough you could always buy a high pinion 35 or 40 spline 3rd member then have new shafts made to fit the carrier/locker/spool etc. Wanna guess what that cost? Well over a grand for just the bare 3rd member without buying a spool shafts etc.

Pirate loves them. I dont see why but maybe its because I dont play on rocks.
