The over drive light started to flash. It hapend after I drowe with snow chains.
I disconected the batteries and it is now as it should be.
Is it possible that snow chains upset some sensors and gave a fault code.
Once the batteries is disconnected the codes are gone. Now there's no way to tell why the light flashed. If it happens again have the codes read before disconnecting the batteries.
Thanks for info. what is needed for reading codes? Is it something a home mecanic should buy or is too expencive.
Is there anyone having experienced driwing with snow chain could cause problems on this?
You will need to buy an OBD2 scanner. Available online or at most of the chain autoparts stores for anywhere from $30 to $3000. Be carefull when buying because the cheap ones only read pure OBD2 codes but not manufacturer's codes. Most Ford transmission codes are not OBD2 codes, they are manufacturer specific.
There is no way of knowing what the code was until its read. However, my experience tells me that it was likely a speed sensor or transmission slip code that resulted from unusual readings from the speed sensor resulting from operation using chains. I would check the owners manual about using chains and see if there are any recommendations or warnings.
Oh, and once the battery is disconnected, the code is gone forever.
Oops. I got the year wrong. I had thought he had a '97. Yes, the OBD1 system is cheap and has OBD1 codes only. My van is a '95 OBD1. OBD2 started in '96.
