Hello can anyone direct me to instuctions on replaceing my overdrive cancel button. see picture i was also thinking of custom mounting it in the dash. see pic link http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/8607/gearvc3.jpg
WOW! That is not what I thought you were talking about.
If you can't superglue it back together, you're gonna hafta open up the steering column to get at the wires.
If you decide to do that and mount the switch on the dash, take pictures and notes. This modification would appeal to more than a few folks (me included) on this site.
You could try the salvage yards for another shift lever.
they are available new from ford for about 40 bucks, minus the button, just about every dealer has them in stock, its a 15 minute job to replace, 4 phillips screws to drop the colum cover, and drive the pin out with a small drift and hammer
would work the same but you would still have to go through the work to replace the handle and repair the wires to route anyway so why not just replace it
Like WALJON said: I also have a 91 F250 and the o/d switch is in the dash. Nice big button. Local transmission shop told me that the operation is the same. 92 and newer technology is different as to allow smaller button, but obviously not better.
Is the wiring going to the od button on the shifter a small wiring harness? does it unplug from another harness in the coll-um? and could the button be wired up so the button has to be pressed to go into od?
