I have to have my motor pulled to replace my front engine cover dur to some cavitation. I am wondering if there are any good, relevant mods i should do while the motor is out? I am not really looking for huge power, I already have all the basics, just want to know whay else would be easier to do if the motor is out? Thanks
The first thing I thought of was the oil pan, they are notorious for rusting and having to be replaced/repaired. Cost at this point would only be new pan or at least take the existing off, clean it real well and put a nice new powder coat or liner on it.

I believe the oil pan needs to come off to get the front cover off. If you have plans on getting into the power later, but youre not even close, might as well go with head studs. you basically need them when you upgrade injectors and turbo.
Check out this thread for the story of my cavitation. There are some pics of my truck, and another guys truck with similar problems. I have to be honest, after spending as much time and money to fix my coolant problems, I started this thread to try and stay positive about this truck. I have been contemplating selling or trading it off and getting something different. Just trying to stay positive and not get too depressed about it, I know it could be much worse. Thanks for the tips on the mods.
Thanks sloppyjoe I never heard or seen that before. Luckly I just changed my water pump about 6 months ago or I would be worryin about it after seeing that pic.
That's erosion from the SCA precipitate acting as an abrasive in the coolant, which is different from cavitation. That is precisely the reason many of us run a coolant filter, and everyone should consider a filter if you are running the green coolant with SCA's.
Your story makes Bob's coolant filter kit seem pretty cheap. Makes me happy it was the first mod I ever did.
