After turning the key and starting my 69 Bronco w/tilt, the wheel doesn't always unlock, but is I wiggle it back and forth the lock pin will drop down. It doesn't cause any problems other than you can't turn the wheel.
I've had the steering wheel off and couldn't see anything wrong the pin would come up with the key off turn key back to unlock and it seemed to work fine.
I know there is a gear at the end of the lock pin that turns when you turn the key. Could this gear be off a tooth.
