Hi Everyone I have a 2012 F350 Diesal I want to put in a Push Button start, the problem I have is can I remove the pin that locks the steering wheel. This is the lock and unlock when you turn the key or remove the key. Has anyone tried to do this Please Help
While I have not had the column apart of the current generation Fords, I have seen the earlier ones, it is a segmented (slotted) steel wheel that is splined to the steering shaft. The segmented wheel could be removed, the segments cut off and then center or hub of the wheel can be reinstalled as it may be needed to provide proper spacing in the column stack.
Alternatively, you could try to remove the pin, but from my recollection, that part of the switch is really not serviceable. You would have to cut it off with an abrasive wheel and in order to do that you'd have to pretty much pull the whole top end of the column apart.
Wondering why I know about this? Most racing organizations don't allow the upper classes of competition vehicles to have locking columns. I've been building race cars and trucks for a lot of years..
While I would like to hear from someone who has had a newer model apart I want to thank you BIG FOOT for the fast reply I too have seen the wheel you mentioned. But I heard a rumor that newer models had some kind of pin on the ignition switch itself. In any case Thank you again
