is this engine correct
according to the vin (F10JH364385) it should have a 223 in it,
the engine number is EBP-6015-E
i think the date stamp off the engine is 48 E
it has three on the floor at the moment but this was obviously fitted later as the hole in the floor for the shifter is terrible and it has had the column shift lever cut off,
on the vin plate under trans it ha the letter A, am i right in assuming that means auto ?
also, axle states 13, does that indicate the ratio?
thanks,
neil

J = 223 1V / I-6
H = Detroit Truck Assembly Plant
364385 = Assembled December 1962 (as a 1963 model)
Transmission Code: A = Ford 3 Speed Manual All Syncromesh Transmission
thats interesting that it came with a 3 speed manual,
i wonder why it's been hacked to make it a floor shift,
it may have a different gearbox in it,
any ideas what model gearbox should be in it???
if anyone has pics of the linkage for a 3 on the tree please share them,

Here's what usually happens...
Either the shift coller breaks (common), and a previous owner couldn't find one (why I don't know), or the shift lever hangs up between 1st/2nd gear...a common problem on these trucks. All that's needed to fix this hang issue are two bushings and insulators, which fit into the two manual control levers, bottom of the steering column under the hood.
The parts are readily available for these two issues from NAPA, but some ppl are clueless, and convert to a floor shifter, doing the usual hash job in the process.
Pictures: 1957/63 Ford Truck Parts Catalog is available on a CD from hipoparts.com / also on ebay.
For less than 25 bucks, you can have illustrations of EVERY part your truck has. The parts catalog can also be used as an assembly manual because the 1000's of illustrations basically show how things are put together/come apart.
You also get ALL the part numbers.

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
i need to find someone over your side of the pond that is willing to let me get the bits sent to them - or pick them up for me, then they can forward them to me,
i would obviously pay them in advance,
i'll try and have a good look at the linkages in the next day or so,
thanks again,

The pound sterling is at this time...the highest it's been in years as to the US dollar...why I'm staying on this side of the pond this year.
Last time I looked, it was 56 pence to one US dollar.
There's no VAT in the US.
On this page there are a list of FTE sponsors, you can contact them for shipping info:

would be nice to get the gears back on the tree,
it's no problems getting bits sent here, it's just we get stung with import duty/tax and then VAT on top of the lot,
it usually doubles the price of bits,
the car failed it's MOT (inspection) on front brake balance so looks like i'm gonna have to strip the brakes and give them the once over,
oh joy,
thanks,
