Vin location on frame?

Ive looked on the frame in the engine compartment for the vin, but cant seem to find it. I was told it would be on the passenger side just behind the wheel. Is this correct?

It is on the upper passenger frame rail, about in line with the front of the engine.
It is often very faint, and usually needs a good wire brushing to reveal it.
You can use a wire wheel, but don't use a grinder.
It will start and end with a star-like character.

It is also under the cab on the top of the same frame rail. It runs length wise, and while hard to dig out it is there.

Mine was only up front near the front of the engine. Very very faint, I had to use paint remover and a wire brush to find it.

Another place to look is on the top of the engine cross member, below the harmonic balancer.

I wasn't looking for it, but there is was when I pulled the 352 from my purchased new '65 F100 in 1981. Truck was assembled January 1965 in San Jose CA
