Difference between 4.0 Vin E and Vin X

Greetings,

I have located a 2001 4.0L Explorer Vin E engine with 59k for cheap. Can I put that in my '97 Ranger that has a 4.0L Vin X that has 140k?

What are the differences? What would I have to change? Is it worth the hassle?

The 2001 is an overheat cam(SOHC), while your '97 would be a pushrod overhead valve (OHV). Swapping the two would be far more complicated than you would think.

You would probably have to change most of the electronics, a few accessories, redo the exhaust, and probably need new motor mounts and a tuner to re-calibrate the computer, even if you use the ECU from the 2001, you need to calibrate it for your transmission and gear ratios.
