I originally posted this problem under the thread "Where did the extra power come from?". It is no longer "extra power". While driving, if i come to a stop, or even close to it, then try to go again, the truck has absolutly no power then after about 5-10 seconds, its fine. It has never stalled on me but it feels like no matter how much throttle i give it, it continues to idle then races to catch up. Another way to explain it would be like leaving a red light while dragging an anchor, then all at once cutting the line. Please Help on this one guys, I cant afford to keep guessing on this.
Have you checked the fuel filter? Your initial symptom didn't sound much like that was the problem, but this one does. When you hit the gas the fuel pressure should go up about 10 psi. If the filter gets dirty it will actually drop until the regulator can catch up. It tends to cause what you are now describing, although not typically for 5-10 seconds.
Before i posted this thread - new MAP sensor, no difference
Since then - new O2 sensor, returned to original problem
- new fuel filter, seemed better for first few drives but the original
problem is coming back and a little worse.
So i do believe the o2 was bad, when i first got the truck, the roll pin on the distributor gear snapped and jammed in place. this threw off the timing (obviously), but it was stuck good enough to keep everything turning. Long story short, horrible shortage of power, raw fuel in exhaust, everything from the block to the first cat was cherry red. the oil pump was dragging and had snapped that pin once before i had the truck and twice since. new oil pump and distributor solved all that.
back to his issue: thoughts on a bad fuel pressure regulator?
