I'm looking at buying the new ford truck. It has an option of a power group but you must choose manual air conditioning and its extra. Does the truck come with air or not? And if its manual why I am I going to pay extra for it?
I just bought a '08 STX and it sayz the same with it. I believe saying it's a 'manual' a/c means that it does not have a temp controlling thermostat is all.
Hope I'm rite.
If it arrives with AC delete, there is an AC kit available that uses Ford Parts, so its identical to ford installed ac.
Manual AC the better idea, vs the Automatic Climate Control.
Is it that tough to rotate a **** when you need to?
You're in a truck after all.
I've learned that with the automatic AC controls, you will actually be running your AC unit while also blowing out heat too.
It blows both to keep a consistent temperature.
So...basically the AC is constantly running.
In my eyes, it seems like a pointless feature. Unless you were really finicky about the temperature.
I like the manuel a/c better because you can better control the temp. I have found that with fords & others auto climate controls that there are situations where there is no perfect setting. The EATC on my wife's Montery minivan & a super duty I drove the other morning will give you no heat on 60 & too much heat on 65 on cool (60-70) mornings. With the temp. **** you can regulate the temp. better. All modern a/c systems run the a/c comp. on most settings for humiity control. You have the option to turn it off in most settings except full defrost which will always run the compressor unless the temp. is below or near freezing temps. for humity control. The a/c compressor affects gas mileage only a very small amout- ususally not even measureable or at the most 1 mpg & @ highway speeds there is less drag with the a/c on than opening the windows.

Reason: misspelling
Actually... the AC affect the mileage a lot more than you think.
Mythbusters proved it.
It's an extra load on the engine. It's like towing a trailer, it's an extra load on the engine and it's going to drop your gas milage. When idling, the rpm's are raised when the compressor cycles on to compensate for the added load, which inturn ups your injector pulse width(more fuel).

just as they "proved" that it's more efficient to drive with your AC on than with windows down.
I think their results are atypical. My F-150 is more gas hungry with A/C...by at least 2mpg. So is my V-8 Durango, I can get 17 MPG city with a Hemi and no A/C. 12-13 City with A/C on.
They could have also done a more controlled test than just driving around a track until it ran out of gas with 2 different vehicles.

I think on a small 4-6 cylinder it will drop fuel mileage
but on the 5.4 seem to not matter
my 5 liter 302 1988 F150 you knew when air was on more fuel less power
just came back from a trip to Pittsburgh ran 70 MPH on cruse most of the time with air on full time got 21 miles Per gallon on trip real happy with my truck
its been giving me this type of performance all summer always run air don't like the wind noise
these are just my findings on my truck
