So the dreaded CPS went out today. Discovered it when I got off work and my truck BARELY started.....acting like it was starving for fuel and chugging badly, I knew right away it was the CPS. I live about 45 miles from my work, and work is in a small railroad town. They do have a Ford dealer there, so I called them up to ask if they had any of the new CPS in stock for the recall. They did.......but the Parts counter/Barney Fife of Mayberry with 1 bullet in his pocket WOULD NOT SELL ME ONE! Claimed since it was a recall item, it could ONLY be installed by the dealer, and they weren't allowed (per FORD) to sell me one to install on my own! Grrrrrrrrr not happy at this point. So I get the truck started after a little work, and take off for home, call my local Dealer and they have lots of CPS in stock, and said no problem to sell them to me. I picked up two, part #F7TZ-12K073-B (gray one). Gripe to them about the other dealer haha. Anyways.....I am long-winded tonight! Lets get to why I posted.....after changing out the CPS the truck still ran like crap. I decided to hook up my Superchip tuner and pull the codes. I get this: code P0340-Camshart Pos sensor circuit error (bank1/1sensor) That one's a no brainer.
The 2nd code I got was this P1211-ICP not controllable-Pres above/below desired. What does this mean? I have no clue what the ICP is.......I cleared the codes, unplugged the tuner, and test-drove it. Drove just fine...and started up better then it has in awhile! Any help with this code?
Also......per/guzzles instructions, I went to pull the #9 fuse under the hood, and it's empty! Always has been.....don't know exactly what this is used for, but I've never had a fuse there. Sorry for the LONNNG post guys!
After you cleared the codes did you try and run it with the tuner? If it ran fine after removing the tuner then that might be suspect. Try plugging the superchip back in and see if it starts running rough again.
Which guzzle tip were you reading that referred to fuse #9. The fuse controls changed at some point so we need an idea of what that fuse was supposed to control.
The ICP sensor is to the right of the fuel bowl if your standing in front of your truck. You could pull that out and check for excessive oil. If you hit a no start situation you can try and unplug this to see if it starts. I'd put the tuner back on and pull any codes again.
I guess I should've been more clear, sorry. When I said I unplugged the tuner, I just meant that I unplugged it from the data port. It is never plugged in normally, only to run a code, or change the tune. I had it set in hi-performance mode while I changed out the CPS, and after the truck still ran bad after I changed it, that is the point that I dug out the tuner and pulled the codes. It was never set to stock at any time. I am able to run codes, and clear them without removing the tune. After I removed them (codes), that is when it ran great. And about that fuse, I apoligize, it wasn't guzzles how to....it was a link from here at FTE https://www.ford-trucks.com/article/...ke_Diesel.html I went by this while changing it out, no fuse in that location. Everything seems to be fine on the truck now, I was just wondering what that ICP code was. I'll try pulling some more codes again tomorrow, hopefully it will come up clean! I'm wondering if that ICP sensor came from running out of fuel completely last weekend. Had to prime the system for awhile....but it ran great for a few days until today. It's snowing like crazy here right now.....hopefully the truck will start well in the morning....my Mustang isn't the best in the snow haha
ICP and running out of fuel have no bearing on each other. the ICP controls oil pressure inside the oil gallies. Did you change your fuel filter after the "incident"?
1211 is also caused by the chip..i have the dp and pull that code every time i scan..doesnt help that i have a 15* HPOP ether...your asking too much from the HPOP and it cant keep up.it will through that code
thanks guys.......I didn't change the fuel filter after runnning out, only because I just changed it about a month ago. It looked pretty clean still. I'll know how the truck runs in a couple hours.
