So it worked before you put the kit or kits in? DO you have the TV cable attached to the throttle and properly adjusted? How much tranny fluid did you put in it?

So its a fresh rebuild and it doesn't work? Or it worked for awhile and now it doesn't?
It stopped working after the shift kit? We need more information.
If its just been rebuilt and doesn't work then some one goofed up. It could be lots of things, internal leak, linkage not adjusted right, something in valve body not put in correctly and on and on we go.

try these guys: http://www.network54.com/Forum/260730/ they speak aod . sounds like crap in one of the lines in the valvebody or the governor unit. make sure your tv line pressure is right.(33-39psi)
i'm guessing it freewheels after you rev it out in first?

You shouldn't have to touch the cable at the tranny. The proceedure I have seen is to pull the jacket of the cable back enough to take any slack out of the cable at the throttle connection, and lock it down. Slightly more preload than this will move shifts up in rpm, but you don't want any less preload than this.

make yourself a gage (a cheap oil pressure gage will do (0-100)) get a piece of hose, clamp it to the gage, run the hose to the middle plug found above the passenger side above the pan toward the rear. pull the fitting out and attach an 1/8 pipe fitting to the hose. put it in the open port. make a test spacer for the tv cable by taking a 10mm bolt about 2" long and cut off the threads. cut a notch in the cut end big enough to fit over the tv cable inner cable. using pliers, grab the metal tip that sticks slightly out of the front of the plastic attaching clip and pull it out of the sleeve far enough to slip the spacer over the cable which will hold it out a given distance.
warmup the trans to about 160*, read the pressure at idle. adjust the cable by popping up the retaining clip at the mounting bracket to get between 33-39 psi. (higher the pressure, the more positive the shift)

This is a picture of my TV cable on my '88 F150 5.0.
http://www.winfordr.com/FordTruckStuff/197a.jpg
I found that the easiest way to get the adjustment right was trial-and-error.
When the cable is properly adjusted, the trans will shift into OD at 37-40 mph on level ground - at normal cruise (not pulling or coasting). Checking the pressure may help determine if there are other problems, but if the only problem is the TV cable adjustment, this can save a lot of time and hassle. Just make an adjustment, take a short test drive - don't drive any further than necessary with it mal-adjusted. You may need to click on the picture to zoom in.
