Have you checked out the page I saved from the now defunct "385 Series" web site? I put it back up temporarily on my site. It can be found at http://moon.ouhsc.edu/jjoice/intakes.htm The SCJ intake is a good hp producer. Although it didn't do all that well in this test as far as torque is concerned, I have heard several people say that is a very good all around intake. Only the best aftermarket intakes will be better. I personally prefer the Weiand stealth, however, I don't think a guy can go wrong with a SCJ intake.
If you do use it you HAVE to use gaskets for a 429CJ.The ports don't match up perfect and if you use regular gaskets it will suck oil from the lifter valley.I ran one for several years on a near stock 460 and it did give it more power than the stock intake. The Ford Performance book by Pat Ganahl says that even with the port mismatch it will yield about 15 horsepower more than a stock intake.I just noticed this book says the part #DOOZ-9424-C is a CJ intake with the Quadra-Jet flange and part#DOOZ-9424-B is a SCJ with the Holley flange.I still have mine with the Holley flange but its not here so I can look at the numbers on it.

If I do get the intake, I'll take a die grinder to the heads and port match them to the intake. It will be put on the 460 in my 78 along with D0VE-C heads with 2.19int/1.75exh valves, 204/214 dur @.050 .484/.510 lift cam, 750 holley, comp cams roller timing set (68-71), roller rockers and L&L shortie headers.
BTW what is this intake worth. What should I pay for it? Thanks guys.
Well around this part of the world a $BBl Inatke for a 302 runs $200.00 canadian.
That 429 SCJ Intake would probably fetch $500.00-$700.00
at a swap meet by someone who knows what istis.

You'll have a lot of grinding to do on DOVE heads to match CJ intake ports.
The cam durationand lift you've spec'd is for lower rpm torque purposes. The CJ's intake ports are BIG and were designed with 2.24" intake valves to produce a torque range at higher rpms for drag and other track racing. In lower rpm torque oriented applications, standard production heads like the DOVE with exhaust ports cleaned out and 2.19" intake valves will outperform CJs. The smaller intake ports allow a more efficent fuel mixture velocity to develop at lower rpms.
If this application is for a truck, I'd suggest you consider matching your DOVE intake ports to a dual-plane aftermarket manifold with standard runners. Torque in the lower rpm ranges to get and keep all that iron moving is what you're after, not narrow torque power bands at high RPMs suitable for vehicles that weigh 3-3500lbs.
That SCJ intake is worth about $125-200 depending on condition. CJ intakes are worth about $100-150. That's American money. They are good intakes but not that rare or valuable. If you already have the intake or can get it cheap it would be fine to go with. On the other hand if you are going to have to give as much or more than for a good aluminum intake, then the aluminum is the way to go.
I dont think you can port doves out to cj get a gasket and you can see just how they differ I like my stealth intake I maxed mine out and get 305 on in take 185 on exhaust and cj still will not fit good
I have ported two sets of heads to match my SCJ manifold. One was a set of C-9s the other set was DOVEs.It took about three hour per head with a doublecut carbide bit and a die grinder. There is alot of metal to remove. As I said before I ran mine several years with mismatched ports and it worked fine as long as I used the right gackets.I have saw some on ebay go for around $100.
