R Bit?

I was looking at making the aih delete plug and in the instructions it talks about a r bit from pyro install. Haven't got a pyro yet so wondering what kind of drill bit this is and if I can pick one up at Lowes or If I already have one.
Thanks for all the help.

some drill bits are fractional and some are lettered. go to favorite Hardware store (or bolt and nut house) and ask for a "R" bit, and an 1/8" NPT tap. you should get out for less than $10 total. the R bit does translate to a fraction but i cant remeber which one(its not in your standard fix it up kit).

i believe the R bit is a 21/64 .. the 1/4 NPT tap should say on it which size compliments it nicely

My 1/8-27 NPT tap says to use with 11/32" or 8.7mm drill bit. Hope that helps. The tap you buy will tell you what bit to use. My tap ran $4.29 a few years ago at a local HW store.

I could not find the R bit anywhere around here in the local stores. I ended up ordering one online, but can't remember where. Something like drillsandtaps dot com. I think you can use a standard bit though without much of a problem.

Mike-11/32 and 21/64 are about the same thing..except the 11/32 is a 1/64 bigger than the 21/64 so if you can't find the R bit, the 21/64 will suffice. i belive the bit and tap ran me something like $13 at a local HW store, but they mark up there prices pretty good but are convenient so. . .

and as far as finding them locally, your right, you dont have to find the exact R type bit...you simply need the 1/8" NPT tap and a bit in the ballpark..for example i used the 21/64 bit and it worked out perfectly. you could also opt for the 11/32

mcmastercarr probably has them, trouble with mcmaster, and drill bits, is they have SO MANY CHOICES. If you only had one drill bit to chose from, it would be easier haha

Correction, they do R size R (.3390")

And they have 20 choices of that size.

You are correct Nic. Not much diff. My point was get the appropriate tap and go from there. I think we both made that very clear at this point. R bit be darned.
