Installing cab clearance lights...

Hey everyone! I really want to get cab clearance lights for my 73 F250 Camper Special. Is there any place that could install these for me, if I get the entire kit? I'd be able to do it myself, but I'm not exactly sure where to place the clearance lights. I know one goes in the center of the roof toward the front, and one to each side, and then one on each side toward the edge, but not sure what the exact measurements are of installing them.

Any idea on what places would charge to install a set of these? My truck never came with them, so I would either have to find the original kit on Ebay or get an aftermarket kit.

Any help would be appreciated!

LOL thanks! I just looked at those two listings, but thanks anyway!

Not sure where I wanna buy the kit from, or what type of lights look best on my truck. My truck is white/brown two-tone. The roof is white. I'm thinking about getting the newer style ones that are chrome/orange. They look pretty nice.

Don't really want to get ones that are all plastic, unless they all are.

I might order them from LMC Truck. They have 3 nice kits (in the catalog I only care for either the far left set or the far right set on the page with Cab Roof Lights.

I'm really good with installing things, so I should be able to install them myself...

Any more insights or opinions are greatly appreciated!

I installed mine myself

I just removed a set from the 75 I'm parting out.

I used the string - magic marker - drill system

Isn't it true that four of the five are equally placed from each other, and then an additional one in the very center of the truck?

No the inner ones are usually nested together.

I like the look and distance on mine as they are not by the book.

Should I get these:

or these:

The first image is very similar to the original clearance lights of 1973-1975.
However, I do like the die-cast chrome ones!

The OEM looking ones can be found at realtruck.com for $36.74. They are 4-5/8"L x 2-1/16"W x 1-3/4"H.
The chrome die-cast ones are also at realtruck.com for $62.99. They are 8"L x 2-1/2"W x 2-1/2"H.

Let me know what all of you think! Here is a front photo of my truck so you can get an idea of what they'd look like:

I decided to go with the most popular one:

The other ones I showed I didn't like how they mount to the roof (screw holes were in weird places).

The one you chose requires even more and a larger hole.

Just my input. I installed the same lights you went with because they are period correct. I used the measurements MASTERBEAVIS provide for the most part, just added a little bit distance between the center 3. The outer 2 look better set back a little from the center 3. I used the string just to get a straight line, then tape as a final guide. Do, run the wire down the inside of the a pillar. It is not hard. Also wire as suggested by the picture posted in the second thread Mil1ion shows. Take your time.

Believe it or not, before installing them, I seemed to be invisible to some people in the early morning..not a problem now.

Not necessarily on the bigger hole.He can cut the thick quick connect plugs off and just hardwire them.Which would elimanate the big hole. Then 3 small holes each light will do.And the headliner will then go up properly.

Yeah. I'll figure it out. Actually I live on a dairy, and there is a 1988 Ford F350 with clearance lights on top. I can just measure those, and get an idea of where to put them!

Just an update, to install the clearance lights I ended up getting (the factory style), the quick connects aren't on the wires yet. Therefore, I only need at most a quarter inch hole for the wire to go through in the center. The quick connects can be hooked up once the lights are on the truck, can wire them up from inside the cab with the headliner removed.

I'm getting quarter-inch grommets to put in those holes, so the wires don't rub on the bare metal over time, causing a short.

I will be sure to post pictures when I'm all done!

I changed my mind on what lights I'm installing. Ordered these from PepBoys for $24.99. Returning the stock style I purchased from LMC Truck (for $50...not worth $50 it in my opinion).

They have black bases, and the lights look awesome in my opinion. Two screws (one in the front and one in the back) hold down the base. A screw holds the lens on, allowing you to in the future easily remove the top lens and change the bulb. Also, the bulbs turn and lock into place in these. The ones I got from LMC truck seemed like crap to me.

Anyway, I found out that 73-75 trucks had the teardrop design originally anyway. So they are also the right design for my 73 truck.

On the front screw hole on those, it automatically grounds the light to the roof without the need of an extra wire. I got a bunch of quarter-inch grommets to fit through the quarter-inch holes that I will drill for the wire to pass through into the inside of the cab. And I'm going to use RTV silicone sealant to seal the roof light to the roof, to prevent any present or future leaks.

I will post pictures of my truck the before and after shoots, and let you all know how they end up looking!
