Is this an accurate statement?

Also, I'f I pickup the EGR block-off plate, what is done about the EGR valve? Is it just left in the closed position unplugged?

Thanks
not quite, since you have an 05 you will have to leave yours in the closed position by disabling the EGR operation w/SCT programming. 03-04 could simply be unplugged but 05-up will set of CEL if unplugged.

I cleaned mine today. It took less than 30 minutes. Kind of tough pulling the egr out of the intake but the rest was easy. some carbon on it but carb clean and a rag had it mint in a few minutes. I paid particular attention to the seat,
I re installed and but left it unplugged. I drove it 15 miles. No light or issues. planning on towing on sunday

I used a 5/16(8mm) socket, a close hanger(wire) 2 small pry bars to "pop" it up.
I ride mx and used a bike stand to well, stand on to lean over the motor. a very easy chore.

I simply left unplugged for testing. It might spool faster but who know.
I have driven the truck 75K and just used 1 bottle of fuel conditioner the last 2 tanks. My fuel filters were changed 2 weeks ago for the first time...still stock air cleaner.
I use the truck primarily for towing a 5k trailer. my daughter drives it 10-15 miles per day to school and back. Probably drives it harder than I.

back to the question- should i plug the egr back in before I tow?]
i took pics but need to download

I believe the "50 state emissions" was optional in 2005. Some had it and some didn't. Mine had it and it lit up the CEL when unplugged. If you didn't get the 50 state emissions option, you will not throw a CEL.

New info for everyone. When the 05e16 flash came out the ECM started looking for EGR flow on all 6.0's even the 03-04 models. If the MAF does not see a change in flow when the EGR is open it will assume something is wrong and use a different fuel table decreasing millage and performance. On the 02-04 this will not set a CEL but you are still using a "EPA Mode" The 05+ trucks have a different ECM that will set a CEL. This is a federal regulation to insure that the NOx reduction system is working. IF the system is not working then the software reduces max combustion temps to reduce NOx. SCT at this time cannot access the "EPA Mode" tables. They can turn off the CEL but not the table jump.

This effects all US diesel light duty motors, not just ford.

Point of interest!! Do you remember about 18 months ago we had a recall for a new ECM code and if you did not get the code in some states you could not license your truck?? Well that was when we got the EGR code.

I am in the process of researching work arounds but at this time I am hiting a brick wall.

What year do you have? 03-04 will not throw a code, but will use the bad code.

not sure if i am one of those or not, but i tend to think not since my truck has consistently been stronger/faster than any other truck w/similar mods and some w/more mods...

guess i got lucky...

I have been chasing a P401 code for a couple of weeks so I did the disconnect today. The P401 is gone but now I have codes P403 and P405. Turbo spool time and mileage so far seem the same.
But after rereading this thread I do not want the truck to go into limp mode so I better plug it back in until I can get the valve replaced.
