I posted this in the A/C and Heating thread but I have not got a response. Can anyone tell me what will cause a 1994 Ranger 2wd 2.3L to loose heat when it idles? I just changed the water pump and thermostat. Started the truck and let it warm up. When the needle started to move up it was blowing heat but i had my foot on the gas. The needle moved up to normal and I let off of the gas and it started to blow cool air in the cab. Any suggestions?
Did you have this problem before the cooling system repairs????
If not, then maybe air in the cooling system. Did you burp the system good after refilling it????
If not, try facing the front end up hill & running the engine until it fully warms up, then with the overflow reservoir topped up with coolant, let it fully cool down & see if the reservoirs level drops any, if so it burped trappd air.
Sometimes, with it facing uphill, "milking" the lower radiator hose before starting the engine will help it burp, IF, you've used a OEM Motorcraft thermostat or one designed like it, with a air bleed valve.
If entrapped air isn't the problem & seeing as how you've replaced the water pump, so fow from it should be strong, I might suspect restricted flow through the heater core!!!!
So maybe pull the heater core hoses off & back flush the heater core & see if anything comes out.
My driveway has a pretty decent uphill grade to it so i filled it up in the drive and guess what? It worked. Thanks for the info pawpaw. I really appreciate it.
