Passenger Window Motor
Got a 99 Exp 4.6L. Anybody have problems with the pass. window motor? Won't go down/up. Besides checking the fuse under the dash, anything else that I'm missing (like a relay or something?). Also, for anybody who's done it, is it easy to replace?
1. Remove the front door trim panel.
2. Remove the front door radio speaker.
3. Remove the front door watershield.
4. CAUTION:
Support the window glass to avoid damage.
Raise and support the front door window glass to the full up position.
5. Disconnect the power window motor electrical connector.
6. Remove the window glass to regulator nuts.
7. Remove the motor and window regulator assembly.
1 Drill out the rivets.
2 Remove the motor and window regulator assembly.
8. Note:
Prior to motor removal, make sure the regulator arms are in a fixed position to prevent counterbalance spring unwind.
Remove the power window motor.
1 Remove the bolts.
2 Remove the power window motor.
Once the door paneling is removed, and the rubber paper, below the door speaker you will see 3 small "dimples". These dimples are right over the location of the three screws that hold the motor in place.
I used a drill and a 1/2 inch hole cutter. I centered the bit on the dimple and cut a 1/2"hole that lets me see the head of the 5/16 bolts. I removed with a deep socket. If the fall between the metal and bracket I used needle nose pliers to get them out. There are three of them.
To put them back can be frustrating. I put some black electric tape over the hex head of the screw, and then press it into the socket. This will keep it from falling while you get it started.
I can take a pic and post, I still have it disassembled.
Before you go through all this trouble, in my case, this wasn't it. I seem to have an electrical issue somewhere else (OTD Relay?). Still researching. Before you go through removal you can test the motor. Just use a POS and NEG leads to the two wires (disconnect the plug inside the door). If you hook them up one way, it will turn up, opposite, it will turn down. If this doesn't work at all, the motor would seem to be bad. It is an easy test before drilling holes on the inside panel of the door. If the windows moves, then the motor is NOT it... and now you have to figure out what is it...

I followed these directions and they worked great. I have a 1999 EB Expy and there werent any rivits to drill out. Instead there were 3 little dimples that have to be drilled out in order to access the 5/16 bolts as noted above. Make sure the window is taped up before removing motor. In my case it was a plug and play event. Very good write up. Thanks for the info.
