c'mon jboard! it was 34 deg when I did it! just the excitment of fixing it injust a few minutes was good enough for me!! as for WALJON... we'll let you slide on this one for the night
Rick, thanks again for the info. I'll figure out the rep point thing for shortly!!!
I had the same problem didn ' t think it was fixable unless changing the cable. Even tried wrapping electrical tape around the shift tube bushings and then put the saddle clips back over the shift tube. It made a little difference but not much.
I tried looking for this post last night when I read your post I couldn,t find it must be too old now but if you lay on your back on the floor under the dash with a flashlight look up there and you will see a white piece of plastic with two torque bolts the shift cable is attached to this chances are the bolts are loose just tighten them.
I just got my truck delivered after buying it 2 weeks ago. I'm on the other side of the world (Qatar) so my wife picks it up from the shipper and it has a sloppy shifter. The guys who sold it said it worked fine when he sent it. He had the truck inspected and all for $200. I didn't ask you guys what it could be cause I wasn't there to look first. She took it in to get all the fluids changed at our "trust-worthy shop" and they said the bushings in the steering column are probably bad. Just got the bill several days ago so I'll check it out when I get home in 2 days. Maybe I'll never know what was really wrong. I shoulda asked here first! My wife would have fixed that one if she had the picture. Live and Learn. I'll let you know what they said they did and how much they charged. They should have gave us the old part - right? I'm thinking the ride on the transport trailer may have jiggled it loose.

Reason: spelling
The shifter in my truck has been sloppy since I got it last spring. Since the shift handle and od button was messed up and it was a solid column, I got got a tilt column off ebay and swapped them out. After looking over the old column, the bushings were worn so bad they had kicked out from under the clamps. So in effect there were no bushings.
The shop we go to is a pretty big, successful one - and you don't get that way by foolin' folks. You get that big by working hard and being honest, and by reputation. The owners been at it for awhile....I bet he did us right. I joined this forum to learn more about our trucks, and do as much of the maintenance and repair as possible. It's a good thing to hear so many members got a good fix for their trucks! Reps sent.
