v10 sputtering!!! what could it be?

whats up guys, tonight my truck started to sputter while at a stop while in drive, now it has a sputter while driving.

the v10 has 61000 miles onit. it has a new air filter, new oil+filter, new fuel filter, runs on 89 octain, and i cleaned the MAS + reset the computer about 2 months ago. everything was fine, but just tonight it started the sputtering.

what do you guys think it could be? i dont think the plugs are bad, i checked two and they looked good.

any ideas?

thanks guys, i am really greatfull for your help!

COP, water in fuel, low fuel pressure, faulty fuel pump.

Could be a bunch of things. Do you have a code reader? Do you have a smell of sulfur?

Do you have a check engine light/SES/CE? If so, get is scanned. Check your airbox and inlet tube to make sure you don't have a vacuum leak.

Sometimes it takes some time for the codes to appear. When my COP went to heck, the truck would hardly run. It would shake the teeth out of your head it ran so mad. The sulfur smell was enough to make you sick. No CEL or codes. It took awhile to get it to toss a CEL.

Very well could be a vacuum leak. They are tricks and wont usually cause a code directly to the leak. Usually some sort of a lean condition.

check the PCV elbow on the back of the intake. Should be a 90 degree rubber elbow back there going to your PCV valve. These will usually blow a sizeable hole right at the bend in the elbow. $12-15 fix if i remember right. I had a V10 with similar mileage do this to me and it was this vacuum leak. With that few miles it shouldnt be a cop dropping out on you.

Did you recently buy gas? Maybe a $1.00 bottle of dry gas will help, this time of year it cant hurt. May have just been bad gas.

This far into winter i doubt that a bad blend is to blame. Sounds like vacuum leak or spark issue to me.

Check your Idle Air Control (IAC) valve.

Also, scan it with a code reader that can read pending codes.

I had the same thing happen recently on my '00 F250 and it ended up being one of the coils. I had just bought it nused, so they fixed it for free and it was done by the end of the day. Hope this helps.
