last friday my truck all of a sudden starting missing/sputtering while driving down the road and has been getting worse each day and running rich.
The truck is a 93 f350 with a 460 5 speed.
It was running great then starting acting up.
I did fill up 1 tank on new gas 20 minutes before it starting acting up.
What all i have done since is..
Switch tanks to try different gas along with a new fuel filter.
new cap and rotor, took the cat. converter off and it is gutted already, checked plugs(were black), checked for vaccum leaks. But so far everything isn't making a difference.
And i haven't had the check engine light come on, but scanned it and its not getting any codes.
It starts fine each time with no problems too. and there isn't any smoke.
Any ideas on what it could be?
It still has a slight sputter and the throttle isnt all there.
update! I am getting it to finally throw black sooty smoke under a heavy load up a hill or so, but them goes away when you let off the gas.
I still cant get codes to come up.
Replaced the map sensor, fender module, air bypass sensor all from my other running turck and still no luck
If you are saying you can not get the computer to read out any codes at all then I would say you have a bad computer.
You should at least get a 11 code.
I decided to buy my own scanner, and here is the codes it gave me..117,122,126,212,327,332,334,337,553, and then it gave me a 10. Would my egr be the main cuprit?as the crankcase vent hose has alot of exhaust gases inside it.
First off it looks like you did the codes on a cold engine (117).
You did not say if the codes are KOEO, CM or KOER codes.
Some of the codes are only KOEO, some are only CM or KOER.
As the codes can have different meanings depending on the type of code.
Some may be very old codes so you need to clear the codes, drive the truck and then check the codes with a warm engine.
You also need to check the vacuum lines on the engine and the wiring harness for its condition before you run the tests again.
It would still would be nice to know if they were KOEO or CM codes.
But if the wiring is OK and the vacuum lines are OK then it does not look good for the PCM Computer as that many things do not go bad all of a sudden.
I went ahead and cleared the codes last nite and drove it today. The only codes i now get are 553 in keo mode, then it gives me 332 in continous mode. But the truck does still seem to be using alot of gas and blows out the black smoke(like a diesel) under a load. Would the fuel pressure regulator be bad?

Take the vacuum line off of the regulator and see if you can smell or see fuel coming out of the line. If there is fuel in the line, the diaphragm inside has gone bad.
My 460 truck was blowing black smoke when I first got it. It ended up being the computer bad. But, I also couldn't retrieve codes so that's usually a major sign that the comp. is bad. Since you can retrieve codes, the odds are less likely.
